Thelma Mae Hastings

July 6, 1937 — August 7, 2022

Thelma Mae Hastings

Thelma M. Hastings, 85, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 7, 2022 at Signature Health Care in Cambridge.

Thelma was born on July 6, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Ulman and Novella Lewis. She grew up and was raised on Hoopers Island.
She was a people person and loved taking care of them. She worked as a nursing assistant at various nursing homes including Glasgow, Mallard Bay and Chesapeake Woods.  She also worked as a crab picker and could pick a crab faster than you could blink an eye.

Thelma had a heart of gold and the energy of a young adult. When there was work to be done she was like the energizer bunny.  Thelma was down to earth, sweet, funny and so loving.
In her free time you could find her enjoying and tending to her flower garden, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed shucking and eating oysters wrapped in longhorn colby cheese. Thelma also had a love for animals and was known to walk her pet rabbit on a leash. She could always count on people to stop, observe and carry on a conversation about her bunny.
For a woman so short and petite her heart was so big.  There was not a soul that Thelma didn’t touch.  She was so loved and will greatly be missed.

She is survived by her sons Harold Ray Hastings, Jr of Cambridge, MD Ulman L. “Spanky” Hastings (Sherry) of Seaford, DE and Mark Hastings of Cambridge, MD; grandchildren Missy Custis (Toby), Bonnie Warfield (Greg), Jessie Bradley (Brandon), John Michael Hastings, Brittney Hastings (fiancé Larry Nichols), Zachary Hastings and Gene Warfield (Krista); great grandchildren Brendon, Porter and Spencer Elzey, Zachary Willey, Zoe Willey, Kash Michael Hastings, Kaylee Mae Nichols, Alyssa, Malerie and Trent Warfield, Michael, Matthew and Brandon Brittingham; sisters Gretha Montgomery of Clovis, New Mexico and Cecilia “Sue” Kelly of Marion, Virginia;  several nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved dearly.

Preceded in her death besides her parents were two sons Philip M. Hastings and John M. Hastings; sisters Esther Stanley and Dana Leedy; brothers Ulman and Wendel Lewis; daughter in law Nichole Hastings, grandson Austin Edward Hastings and granddaughter Jennifer Brittingham.
