Wayne L. Ashton, Sr., 80, of Hoopersville passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at UMSMC @ Dorchester.
Born November 6, 1939 on Hoopersville, he was a son of the late Mary Lewis Ashton and Floyd Raymond Ashton, Sr. Wayne attended the local schools and at a very young age started working the water carrying on the family tradition. For many years he worked in the family business, Ruark and Ashton Seafood.
On December 23, 1963 Wayne married the former Jo Ann Parks. They were blessed with raising three children and fifty six years of marriage. Together they started Old Salty’s Restaurant on Fishing Creek in 1984 and operating it till 2004.
Wayne loved an auction. He would regularly travel all over Delmarva to find that great priced bargain item that he just couldn’t live without. When relaxing at home a favorite pastime was watching wrestling.
Surviving besides his wife Jo Ann is a daughter Rhonda L. Tall (John); sons Wayne L. Ashton, Jr. (Dawn) and John L. Ashton (Ashley); grandchildren John Tall, Jr., Kevin Tall, Jeremy Ashton ( Kati ), Jarrett Ashton, Corey Ashton, Levin Ashton, Madison Abbott, Lauren Abbott and Junior Abell; great-grandson Grayson Ashton; sister Dorothy Elzey; brother F. Raymond Ashton ( Marie ); brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws who were like his own and a close family member Christy Ashton.
Besides his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by a daughter Julia Ann Ashton and a brother Thomas F. Ashton.
In keeping with Wayne’s wishes services will be private with family.
