William Carpenter

William F. “Billy” Carpenter, 71, of Fishing Creek passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at UMMC-Baltimore surrounded by his family and friends after a lengthy battle with heart issues.

Born October 24, 1946 in Washington, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Nora Edwards Carpenter and Ben Carpenter. He had attended schools in PG County.

For over 30 years Billy was a school bus driver. He loved classic cars, racing and motorcycles. For many years he owned and operated Money’s Towing in the DC Suburbs. Many of his old friends always refer to him as “Money”.

Billy enjoyed everything outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping. He took great pride in knowing where the best honey holes for fishing with his family and friends were in Dorchester County. He enjoyed wood working and tinkering around in his garage. Billy especially loved his grandchildren and the kids on his school bus route.

Billy was affectionately known within the family as the Cookie Monster for his love of cookies. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Surviving is his wife, the former Cheryl V. Fletcher of Fishing Creek, MD; children Shelia Cloud (Mike) of York, PA, William F. Carpenter, Jr. (Lisa) of Shadyside, MD, Stephanie Moxey (Clint) of Woolford, MD, Anthony Carpenter of Fishing Creek, MD, Joseph Carpenter (Emily) of East New Market, MD; Brother Gene Carpenter (Paula) of Laurel, DE; sister Joanne Bush (Rob) of Laurel, DE; six grandchildren, William Funk, Sarah Funk, Dillion Carpenter, Justin Carpenter, Lillian Moxey and Jacob Moxey along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the East New Market Fire Hall in East New Market, Maryland with Pastor Steve Bloodsworth officiating. Visitation with family will be one hour prior to Celebration of Life.
