William Henry Newcomb III (aka Billy and Jr.) departed this life on October 27, 2017 at Terrace Gardens in Colorado Springs, Colo. at the age of 81. He was the son of the late William and Pearl Newcomb. After graduating from Cambridge High School, he enlisted in the US Army and retired after twenty years of service. Then, he worked and retired from the United States Postal Service in Colorado Springs.
Billy was married to Nolla H. Grimsley on July 8, 1959. From this marriage came three children, JoAnn Foster of Va., Barbara Entwisle of Westminster, Md., and William (Willy) Newcomb IV of Colorado Springs, Colo. At the time of his death, he was married to Cora Thompson-Newcomb of Colorado Springs.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, JoAnn Foster; a sister Doris Vanaman; three brothers Clarence E. Monks, and twins Albert and Arthur, who died at birth. Also preceding him in death are two nephews, William Joseph (Joe) Newcomb and Clarence (Eddie) Monks.
Billy is also survived by four nieces, Patsy Bennett of Newark, Del. and her husband Daniel Martinek of Elliott Island, Md., Donna Johnson and husband Larry from Millsboro, Del., Ronna Cobb and her husband Jessie of Selbyville, Del., and Marylee Blair and her husband Mel from S.C.; three nephews Olin Vanaman and his wife LuAnn from Wilmington, Del., Charles Vanaman and his wife Sue from Milford, Del. and Robert (Robin) Vanaman and his wife Lynn of Seaford, Del.; a step-son Michael Thompson and a brother Arthur N. Newcomb of Salisbury, Md.
Billy enjoyed short wave radio, baseball and playing games on the computer. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Burial will be private at Bethlehem Brick Church Cemetery in Taylors Island with military honors.
