William S. Middleton

William S. “Billy” Middleton, 73, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at Mallard Bay Nursing and Rehab in his beloved hometown of Cambridge, Maryland. Born on January 25, 1953, in Cambridge, Billy’s life was stitched into the very fabric of his community—a tapestry woven with hard work, devotion, and steadfast resilience.

As a boy, Billy grew up under the caring guidance of his parents, the late Nina June Dickerson Middleton and Thomas Leroy Middleton, Sr. His early years were marked by laughter and kinship, learning the worth of honesty and diligence that would light his path all his days. He was a proud graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1971—a place where deep friendships formed, and where the foundations of character and perseverance were firmly set.

In the summer of his high school graduation, on June 30, 1971, Billy answered his nation’s call, joining the U.S. Army. For three years, he served with resolve and honor, rising to the rank of SP4. On June 26, 1974, he returned home with an honorable discharge: a soldier at heart forever marked by service and camaraderie.

Billy’s sense of purpose and craft found expression in his career as an electrician. For many years, he approached his work with utmost integrity and extraordinary skill. His hands mended what was broken and sparked light for friends, neighbors, and countless strangers alike. Through his labor, he built a legacy of reliability—a tradesman who never let anyone down.

He is survived by his children, B. J. Middleton and Michelle Harding; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren He carried forward the cherished memories of his daughter Nichole Middleton Hastings, whose absence was a grief borne with courage. As a brother, he was fiercely loyal—sharing countless moments and unspoken bonds with Stephen Robin Middleton and Jackie Middleton Pusey and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who today remember him with profound affection and gratitude.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and daughter was a brother Thomas Leroy Middleton, Jr.; Grandparents David and Mary Middleton and Edward and Elizabeth Dickerson.

Though the passage of time brought its trials, Billy’s tenacity and warmth never wavered. He lived quietly, yet with a spirit that touched all who knew him—rooted by humble beginnings, shaped by years of dedicated service, and strengthened by abiding love for those closest to him.

As we say farewell, the memories of William S. “Billy” Middleton live on: in the laughter of his family, the gentle wisdom passed through his words, the steady hum of places he helped illuminate. In hearts stitched tight with his memory, Billy finds his rest.
