William Russell Wheatley, 90, of Hudson, passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge.
Born in the Neck District on April 9, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Sarah Cook Wheatley.
He attended local schools and after graduation entered the United States Army Air Corp to serve his country. He received many decorations and citations including, Good Conduct Medal, European African Eastern Service Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon.
Russell retired from Airpax Electronics as a machinist after 25 yrs. of service. He was a member of the VFW Post #7460 and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Surviving him is a brother Robert Lee Wheatley Sr. of Cambridge; two nieces, Susan Thomas and Carolyn Newcomb; two nephews, Jimmy Keyes, Robert Wheatley Jr.; a great niece Tara Gore and a great nephew Ryan Wheatley.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Anna Keyes.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 beginning 1 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, with military honors. Officiating will be Rev. Delmer Willey. Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Russell can be made to the VFW Post #7460, 115 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
