Elsie Shimek, 83, of Secretary, Maryland passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Talbot Hospice, Easton.

Born on October 16, 1937 in Cambridge, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Hazel Baker and Elsie Parks Baker.

She attended the local schools and graduated from Cambridge High School with the class of 1957.

Elsie married Thomas W. Shimek and together made their home in Secretary where they raised two sons.  Tom passed away on April 3, 2020.

She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

Elsie worked as a switchboard operator following her graduation from high school and later a waitress for a short period in a local café.  She loved to yard sale shop and considered the things she purchased as her treasures.

Elsie was a social butterfly, she never met a stranger.  She found enjoyment in telling stories of times past.  Elsie will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving her are two sons Joseph William Shimek and his wife Susan, Steven Lee Shimek and his wife Ginger; grandchildren Caroline and William Shimek; sisters Rebecca Stanley, Ellen San Jean and Jane Voss; niece Emily and nephew Tommy.

Preceded her in death besides her parents and husband was a baby son Thomas W. Shimek, Jr. and granddaughter Samantha.

A private graveside service will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church Cemetery, Secretary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elsie’s name can be sent to Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, Maryland 21601.
