Gary Spencer

Gary Spencer, 81, of Cambridge, Maryland formerly of Bel Air, Maryland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at his son and daughter-in-laws home in Wingate.  His daughter-in-law Amelia was his caregiver over the last few months and saw to it that Gary died with dignity.

Born in McCool, Maryland on October 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Sam Spencer and Nellie Brewer Spencer.

Gary attended the local schools in McCool and then graduated from Baltimore City High School.  After graduation he joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served his country for two years with the military police.

He started his working years at SSA in Woodlawn, Maryland followed by many years of self-employment.  Gary owned and operated a 7-11store, a Dunkin Donuts and Lawn King & Crown Gas Station.   He later went to work for Heartland as a salesman in credit card sales for many years.  After retirement Gary did many side jobs mainly to be able to socialize with people.  He worked security at Memorial Stadium/Camden Yards and accumulated many Oriole baseball cards signed by the players. He was a member of the American Legion Post #91. Gary loved to work and was definitely a people person. His home away from home was at Portside Seafood Restaurant.  He considered the owner Marcia Christopher and waitress Kristin Collins along with all other staff as his second family.   He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by three sons Jim Spencer of Texas, Gary Spencer (Rebecca) of Rising Sun, Maryland and Jason Spencer (Amelia) of Wingate, Maryland; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; his caregivers and friends Bruce and Mary Moser; his Southside Mobile Park neighbors and close friends from Florida, Paul and Fern.

Gary's family would like to express their heartfelt thank you to Dr. Cumberbatch and office staff for the wonderful care provided to Gary while a patient under their care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gary’s name can be sent to the American Legion Post #91, P.O. Box 733, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Gary’s wishes were to have no services.

Arrangements entrusted to Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge.
