Gilbert Earl Horak, 88, of Cambridge, Maryland passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at UMSMC at Dorchester in Cambridge.

Born on November 10, 1931in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Emma Kraft Horak and Albert Horak.

Gilbert attended the local schools in Baltimore and graduated from Southern High School with the class of 1948.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War.

On June 17, 1951 he married his sweetheart, the former May Elizabeth Bell and together raised five children. May passed away on January 9, 2019.

He worked in maintenance for Towson University and retired after 20 years.

Gilbert had many hobbies, but what he loved mostly was restoring old cars.  He was a history buff and researched WWII.  His favorite shows to watch, was Laurel & Hardy and the Three Stooges and he laughed the entire time. Gilbert loved going to the beach for relaxation.  He adored his wife and has missed her very much.  His children held a special place in his heart and they made sure he was taken care of after Mrs. Horak left them a year ago.

He is survived by his daughters Barbara Cavender and Sherry Myers of Baltimore, Mary Kortisses (Paul) of Cambridge, Patty Edens (Steve) of Hampstead; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was a son Michael Eric Horak and a brother Gordon Horak.

Services will be private.
