On Wednesday, November 25, 2020, Harold Edward Cartright, “Hal”, loving husband and father passed away at his home in Fishing Creek, Maryland at the age of 85. Hal was born on May 5, 1935 in Washington, D.C. On November 4, 1954, he married Lois May Reedy. Lois and Hal just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Hal and Lois have been a member of the Fishing Creek community for over 40 years. Hal worked as an engineer for over 30 years at Hydranautics, Inc. before retiring to Fishing Creek and opening Hal-Lo machine shop serving the watermen in the area. Hal also served our country in the Army and was a devoted member of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Department serving in many positions earning the Outstanding Service award.
They raised three children in Beltsville, Maryland. Survivors include his wife Lois, daughter Tammie Roppelt (husband Donald), son Randy Cartright (wife Barbara) and daughter Vickie Vargo ( husband Wesley); granddaughters, Brigitte Stancill, Monica Cordero and Michelle Vargo; grandsons, Kyle Cartright, Brandon Vargo, and Ryan Cartright; and great grandson Oliver Stancill and great granddaughters, Crimson Cordero and Eliana Cartright.  He also had many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his grandson Nicholas Cartright and his four sisters and one brother.
Hal loved to tinker in his garage, watch the sun set over the bay  and ride his bicycle up and down the island having traveled the equivalent of around the world. In his younger days, Hal and Lois traveled to all 50 states and Europe. He loved to fish and hunt and work on his old time roadster with a rumble back seat. He loved to play with his grandchildren and always had many activities planned from a home-made swing to fishing from the pier.
The family would ask that donations be made in lieu of flowers to: Hoopers Island Fire Company.
Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
