Wanda Murphy

Wanda Lee Murphy, 70, of Linkwood, Maryland passed away on Sunday evening, October 18, 2020 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake with her family by her side.

Born in Dorchester County, Maryland on January 23, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Willey Mowbray and Harry Mowbray.

Wanda attended the local schools in Dorchester County.

In 1986 she married Mark W. Murphy and they made their home in Linkwood, Maryland.

Wanda wore many hats in the work force.  She was manager for many years working in food service and up until her health forced her into retirement, she was a caregiver taking care of the elderly. Before she became ill, she volunteered at the food bank that Father Bryan Glancey provided at the Episcopal Church in Hurlock for many years.  Wanda was a go getter and she never let her health issues get in her way of giving to others.

Anyone who knew Wanda knew she was a cat lover.  Her neighbors nicknamed her the “Cat Lady” and the “Cat Sheriff”. Wanda loved working in her flower garden and this year she had a beautiful vegetable garden.  Family was an important part of her life and they will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her husband Mark; sisters Brenda Busta (Robert) and Sharon Jones(Warren); brothers Steve Mowbray (Debbie), Albert D. Mowbray and her many cats.

Preceded her in death besides her parents, were brother’s Earl Meekins, Harry Mowbray, Jr., Norman Mowbray and John Mowbray.

A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 beginning 1:30 p.m. at Newcomb and Collins Funeral Home, P.A., Cambridge.  Officiating will be Pastor Steve Bloodsworth.  Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wanda’s name can be sent to Kitty City Rescue, P.O. Box 1259, Cambridge, MD 21613.
